Company name
Organization Type
Business start date information
Phone number and e-mail address
Information about the business or activity
Please fill in the correct information, and check that the enterprise name and other information is consistent with the relevant information.
Step 5: Provide business address and unit information
Complete the official address of the enterprise, and the operating unit or units as requested.
If the business is based from a home, office, workshop, factory or other location then provide information that best represents the business’ operations and meets the portal’s requirements.
If the enterprise has several activities or units, check carefully the relevant fields.
At the time of registration for Udyam, the applicant has to provide details of the investment in the plant and machinery or equipment and turnover of the enterprise. These details are critical because MSME classification depends on investment and annual turnover.
A. Investment in Plant, Machinery or Equipment
The investment information is mostly collected from the Income Tax Return (ITR) data available with the registration system. The applicant must check the information displayed and furnish any additional information requested.
Certain investments in pollution control, research and development and industrial safety devices are eligible for exclusion in the computation of net investment as per the MSMED Act,2006.
Here’s how the calculation works:
1.The system gets the relevant Written Down Value (WDV) i.e the depreciated cost of plant and machinery or equipment from the available information in Income Tax Return for the relevant previous year.
The value of plant and machinery include the value of all tangible assets excluding land and building, furniture and fittings.
2. The applicant on being asked furnishes details of eligible investments in pollution control, research and development and industrial safety devices on self- declaration basis. 3. For arriving at net investment for MSME classification, the eligible amount is deducted from the respective WDV.
Example of calculation of Net Investment
Let us assume the enterprise has the following investment details:
| Particulars | Amount |
| A. WDV of plant and machinery or equipment as on 31 March 2025 | ₹100 lakh |
| B. Eligible Cost incurred/ expenditure on pollution control, research and development, and industrial safety devices during FY 2024-25 | ₹20 lakh |
| C. Net investment (A – B) | ₹80 lakh |
Therefore: In the present example, the net investment considered for classification as MSME is 80 lakh.
Important note: In case of new enterprises, the information should pertain to purchase cost ( Excluding Goods and Service Tax) of either new or used value of Plant and Machinery or Equipment reduced by the cost of Pollution control, Research and Development , Industrial safety devices. This is updated on Self Declaration basis.
B. Data on turnover and export turnover
Turnover data is generally correlated with Income Tax and GST databases. The applicant has to verify the information shown on portal and submit the export turnover details wherever application asks for it.
The calculation is:
| Particulars | Amount |
| A. Total annual turnover | ₹150 lakh |
| B. Export turnover | ₹30 lakh |
| C. Net turnover (A – B) | ₹120 lakh |
The MSME definition turnover threshold does not include export turnover. So the net turnover in this case is ₹120 lakh.
Important: The export turnover declared in the application should be in conformity with the relevant Income Tax Return, GST records and GSTR-1 returns, as applicable. Any differences should be checked and reconciled prior to submission.

C. Which financial year’s information will be used?
The financial year displayed in the registration form is based on ITR information available with the portal and applicable registration/classification rules.
For example, if an applicant registers in FY 2026-27, the portal may use the latest available ITR data relevant to it. The system may show information of the last available year that is FY 2024-25 , in case ITR for FY 2025-26 is not filed or made available to the system.
Hence, applicants need to :-
- Verify that the financial year stated is compatible with the investment and turnover fields.
- Don’t assume the auto populated numbers are for the current financial year check them.
- Enter eligible exclusions correctly and export turnover where self – declaration is required.
- Keep all supporting financial documentation in case verification is required.
Note: Do not assume FY 2024 – 25 as the default data year for all FY 2026 – 27 applications. The year that is applied may vary depending on the date of application and the data that the portal has.
D. What if the business is new and has not filed ITR before?
A new enterprise may not have a previous Income Tax Return from which to extract investment data on the portal.
In such cases, the promoter is allowed to declare the investment details on a self – declaration basis under the rules. on the purchase or invoice value of the eligible plant and machinery or equipment, excluding GST subject to the applicable rules. This facility continues till the prescribed transition point after the filing of first ITR of the enterprise.
For example, a new manufacturing unit purchasing eligible machinery worth ₹15 lakh (excluding GST) and having not filed any ITR earlier can furnish the details of the investment by way of a self-declaration as permitted by the rules.
Step 6: Choose the right business activity and NIC code
Pick the activity that best describes what the business actually does. The relevant business activity can be identified by the National Industrial Classification (NIC) code.
Step 7: Fill in the rest of the information
Provide other details requested by the portal that may include bank information, employment figures, investment in equipment, turnover and related enterprise details.
Some information may be retrieved from linked government databases and other information may need to be entered or confirmed by the applicant. Provide honest and reliable information.
Step 8: Review and Submit the Application.
Before submitting the application please ensure that you have checked all the details entered. Verify Aadhaar and PAN details, company name, nature of business, address and other such relevant details.
Complete the declarations and final verification required by the portal. Once you have ensured that the information is correct, you can submit the application.
Step 9: Collect the registration particulars
If the registration process is successfully completed, the enterprise is issued a permanent Udyam Registration Number and an electronic Udyam Registration Certificate. Save the registration number and the certificate for future reference.
7. What existing businesses need to do?
You should verify the details in case your contact information, address, business activities or other details change, or in case the portal requires an update.
A single enterprise is not allowed to get more than one Udyam registration only for different business activities. The applicable rules permit the inclusion of both manufacturing and service activities under one registration.Having more than one Udyam Registration number is a violation of Sec.27 of MSMED Act,2006.
